Knit Fabrics: There are 2 types of knitted fabrics that almost everyone uses; Cicular knitting and Warp Knitting. Circular knits are fabrics produced on a tubular form, Warp knits are produced on a flat width of fabric. Here at NPK we create circular knits only. Knit Gauge: The gauge is the number of needles in 1 1/2 inches in a knitting machine. The higher the gauge the finer the fabric. Pique: This is a type of knit fabric, it is of a medium or heavy weight. There are raised cords that run in the warp direction. Jersey: This is another type of knit fabric, it is a plain stitch knit. Jersey is a very popular choice for a lot of companies because it launders well. Rib Knit: This is a type of knit fabric, it is a straight raised cord. This creates a lengthwise cord repeated across the fabric. Pilling: When a knit fabric begins to get little balls of yarn on it from friction and wear. Pil-Trol: A type of yarn created by Solutia. This yarn is 100% acrylic and it prevents pilling. NPK uses Pil-Trol yarn for uniform sweaters because the sweater will keep looking like new! Interlock: Type of knit fabric, interlock is smooth on both sides, and possess good wearing qualities. It can also be described as a 1x1 rib with crossed sinker wales. |
